Our Story

The SheCANic Foundation was born from a simple but powerful idea: women deserve to feel confident about their cars.

Founder Patrice Banks was once what she calls an “auto airhead” a smart, capable woman who still felt lost when it came to car maintenance. Tired of being talked down to, overcharged, and left out of the conversation, she left her successful engineering career and enrolled in automotive school. Her goal? To change the narrative and create a space where women could learn about cars without fear, shame, or confusion.

She started with Girls Auto Clinic, a groundbreaking repair center run by and for women. But the demand for education, confidence, and community stretched far beyond the walls of the garage. That’s when the SheCANic Foundation was formed to make this empowering experience accessible to more women, regardless of income, background, or experience.

Since then, we've hosted monthly car care workshops, educated thousands of women, and built a growing movement of SheCANics—women who aren’t just learning how to care for their vehicles, but are taking control of their lives in the process.

We’re not here to just fix cars.

We’re here to fix a system and build a future where women feel seen, supported, and powerful in every space, including the garage.
